BUCO Knysna comes to the rescue

After the President announced the national lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all BUCO stores closed in South Africa. However, when our Essential Service provider customers called for assistance, we heeded the call and critical materials from various stores.

But one store stood out in particular. Nevil Vlok – Hospital Manager of the Life Knysna Private Hospital and his team contacted BUCO Knysna to assist. They had erected a makeshift plastic structure at the front of the hospital to carry out COVID-19 screening, which left the doctors, nurses and patients exposed to the elements. Michael Williams – Store Manager of BUCO Knysna and his team quickly reacted and assisted the hospital.

They opened their store specially to assist the hospital with building material required to build a more permanent, safer structure – materials ranged from windows and doors to timber, cladding and insulation. Michael gathered a team of four and personally packed and delivered the required material using a bakkie. A few trips later, the team got the job done! Good deeds don’t go unnoticed in this tight community; Nevil and his maintenance manager were grateful for the team’s assistance in supplying material to build a functional and acceptable structure giving dignity to patients and medical staff. “My maintenance manager also told me and explained how you and your team went above what was ‘just requested’. It is commendable, and I will be talking about your assistance for a long time. We look forward to a continued relationship with BUCO Knysna.” – Nevil Vlok.

Well done BUCO Knysna!
